Derek Porter comes to Higher Yields Cannabis as the owner of My Security Firm, LLC, Cannabis Security Experts and co-founder of Resolution Security. Derek oversees all levels of security with HYC to ensure the safety and security of the consumer. This ranges from alarm system management to background checks. It includes identifying and managing unknown security deficiencies and ensuring that even pre-application information is secure and protected.
Security is a multi-faceted and complex entity that requires extensive expertise and experience. The cannabis industry adds an extra element of intricacy to the level of security that is required to ensure proper protection. Derek has over twenty years working in the security industry and over nine that have been specifically dedicated to the cannabis industry. Derek currently sits on the Regulatory & Compliance Committee for the National Cannabis Industry Association(NCIA) and is on the Board of Directors for Helix Technologies Inc, the premier provider of critical infrastructure services for the legal cannabis industry. Derek holds certificates in Certified Homeland Security (CHS) Level III and identity theft risk management (CITRMS). Derek has a master’s in security management from the University of Denver.
Derek served as a Marine for the United States of America with over 390 days in War Zones. While in the military, Derek was part of the Fleet Anti-terrorism Security Team (F.A.S.T) a special operations command. Derek received numerous awards and accolades such as: The Navy, Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device (V) for bravery under fire. Derek has provided protection for the Deputy Prime Minister of Iraq as well as nuclear assets. Derek also acted as a private contractor for private military’s operating within the continental United States (CONUS) and outside the continental United States (OCONUS).
Derek is proud of his contributions to the non-profit organizations he is a part of. Derek is Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the War Writer’s Campaign, Inc., which publishes written work from veterans to promote social change for veteran issues. Derek is Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Dynamic Warriors which supports veterans, patriots and athletes through CBD products. Derek is on the board for CanyonQuests for Vets, an organization that connects military veterans to the sport of canyoneering as well as the board of Sierra Delta whose mission is to unite veterans with service dogs.
Derek is also a fierce protector of his family which includes his wife, daughter and two German shepherds. His daughter may never date. He finds additional enjoyment and peace when backpacking through the beauty of nature.
As an United State’s Marine Corp. member, Derek’s primary focus and training has been to identify threats and to protect civilians from harm. He continues to apply these same principles and values into his current position with Higher Yields Cannabis.
